How top floor counted as 8th floor in question whereas first no. given to ground floor

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.


Each of eight persons – S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z – lives on a different floor of a eight-story building of which the ground floor is numbered 1, the first floor is numbered 2 and so on until the topmost floor is numbered 8. Each one of whom drives a different car among – Swift, Verna, Elantra, Indica, Zest, Baleno, City and Duster but not necessarily in the same order.


The one who drives Indica lives three floors below T, who does not live on the floor numbered 8 or the floor numbered 5. W lives on either the floor numbered 4 or the floor numbered 1 and drives neither Indica nor Elantra. The number of persons who live above V is equal to the number of persons living below S. Neither S nor V lives adjacent to either T or W. The one who drives Zest lives immediately above X, who drives either City or Balano. Exactly two people live between X and V. Z lives adjacent to neither T nor S. Y drives Duster and lives on an odd-numbered floor. U lives immediately above the one who drives Verna but drives neither Elantra nor Swift. The one who drives Baleno is not a neighbour of W.

Ans: (d) It is given that, the one who drives Indica lives three floors below T, who does not live on the floor numbered 8 or the floor numbered 5. Hence T lives on any one of the floors numbered 7, 6 and 4. W lives on either the floor numbered 4 or the floor numbered 1 and drives neither Indica nor Elantra. The number of persons who live above V is equal to the number of persons live below S. Neither S nor V lives adjacent to either T or W. Hence if W lives on floor numbered 1, then T lives on floor numbered 7 and V and S live on floors numbered, 4 and 5 in any order. If W lives on floor numbered 4 then T lives on floor numbered 6 and V and S live on floors numbered 1 and 8 in any order. The one who drives Zest lives immediately above X, who drives either City or Baleno. Exactly two people live between X and V but Z lives adjacent to neither T nor S. V lives on the floor numbered 8 and S lives on the floor numbered1. Z lives on floor numbered 3 and drives Indica. Y drives duster and lives on an odd-numbered floor. Y lives on the floor numbered 7 and drives Duster. U drives neither Elantra nor Swift, Hence V drives Elantra and W Drives swift. As The one who drives Baleno is not a neighbour of W, U drives Baleno and X drives City.
