x=-5 , 4
y= 6, -5

so clearly x=y ( -5 = -5)
and x

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and  give answer.

I. x2 + x – 20 = 0

II. y2 – y – 30 = 0

Options:
A)

x > y

B) x ≥ y
C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y  or the relationship cannot be established
Solution:

Ans: (e)

I. x2 + x  - 20 = 0

⇒ x2 + 5x – 4x - 20 = 0

⇒ x(x + 5) -4(x + 5) = 0

⇒ (x + 5) (x – 4) = 0

∴ x = - 5 , 4

II. y2 – y – 30 = 0

⇒ y2 – 6y + 5y – 30 = 0

⇒ y(y – 6) +5(y – 6) = 0

⇒ (y – 6) (y + 5) = O

∴ y = 6 , -5

∴ no relation b/w x & y can be established.

Not at all because, x=-5,4 and y=6,-5
Now, correlate x and y:
-5<6 means x<y _____________(1)
-5=-5 means x=y _________(2)
4<6 means x<y _______(3)
4>-5 means x>y _________(4)
So, we can never combine all the equations together.
Hence, no relationship can be established...
