as one of the value of x and y are 1/5 and x=1/2 and y =1/7 so answer should be x>=y not x>y

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In each of the following questions, two equations are given. You have to solve these equations and give answer if:

I. 10x2 – 7x + 1 = 0

II. 35y2 – 12y + 1 = 0
Options:
A)

x < y

B)

x > y

C)

x ≥ y

D)

x ≤ y

E)

x = y or the relation can’t be determined   

Solution:

Ans (c) 

I. 10x2 – 7x + 1 = 0

⇒ 10x2 – 5x  - 2x + 1 = 0

⇒ 5x (2x - 1) -1(2x – 1) = 0

⇒ (5x – 1) (2x – 1) =  0

⇒ x = \(\cfrac{1}{5}\) or \(\cfrac{1}{2}\)

II. 35y2 – 12y + 1 = 0

⇒ 35y2 – 7y – 5y + 1 = 0

⇒ 7y (5y – 1) -1 (5y – 1) = 0

⇒ (7y – 1) (5y – 1) = 0

⇒ y = \(\cfrac{1}{7}\) or \(\cfrac{1}{5}\)
