any short cut ?

Question:
The average age of 40 students of a class is 18 years. When 20 new students are admitted to the same class, the average age of the students of the class is increased by 6 months. The average age of newly admitted students is:
Options:
A) 19 years
B) 19 years 6 months
C) 20 years
D) 20 years 6 months
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (b) Total age of 40 students = 40 × 18 = 720 years.

Total age of 60 students after new came = 60 × 18.5 years = 1110 years.

Total age of 20 new students = 1110 - 720 = 390 years.

Average age of 20 students = \(\cfrac{390}{20}\) = 19.5 years.
