Question: Kavya ranks 20th  from the top in the class. What is her rank from the last?

Statements:

I. There are 45 students in the class.

II. Gauravi, who ranks 11th  from the top in the same class, ranks 35th  from the last.

Options:
A) if the data in statement (I) alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement (II) alone is not sufficient to answer the question
B) if the data in statement (II) alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement (I) alone is not sufficient to answer the question
C) if the data either in statement (I) alone or in statement (II) alone are sufficient to answer the question
D) if the data in both statements (I) and (II) together are not sufficient to answer the question
E) if the data in both statements (I) and (II) together are necessary to answer the question
Solution:
Ans (c) From statement I, we can conclude that Kavya ranks 26th (45-20+1) from the last in the class and from statement II, we conclude that there are 10 students above and 34 students below Gauravi, so there are 45            (34+10+1) students in the class. Thus, Kavya who ranks 20th  from top is 26th  from the last.

from statement II, we conclude that there are 10 students above and 34 students below Gauravi, so there are 45=(34+10+1) students in the class. Thus, Kavya who ranks 20th from top is 26th from the last.
