This might be in passive voice where 'he' has given the assurance to me and and I am giving the statement about his assurance to someone else . In that case there is no error in the sentence .

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Read each sentence to find out whether there is any grammatical error in it. The error, if any, will be in one part of the sentence. Mark the part with the error as your answer. If there is no error, mark 'No Error' as your answer. (Ignore errors of punctuation, if any)
He assured quite categorically (a)/ that he had no Intention (b)/ of resigning from the job (c)/ at that point of time.(d)/ No error (e)
Options:
A) (a)
B) (b)
C) (c)
D) (d)
E) (e)
Solution:
Ans: (a) He assured quite categorically

There’s a grammatical error in the sentence and it is in (a) in which the verb “assured” is used without a personal or grammatical object. The verbs “assured, promised, told” etc. demand a mandatory grammatical object to complete the grammatically acceptable sentence construction. A question arises as to who was assured and the sentence doesn’t give any indication of that. A noun or a pronoun should be used as the object of “assured.” The correction: He assured his friends …, he assured me…, he assured the manager… and so on.
