one granddaughter is given
only one granddaughter is not given there
so hw can we get dat there is one brother or none

Question:

DIRECTIONS: Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and give answer:

How many brothers does Sunny(boy) have?

I. Neelima, Sunny’s mother, has three children.

II. Keshav, who is the father of Neelima, has no son but one granddaughter.

Options:
A) If the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
B) If the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient.
C) If the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
D) If the data even in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
E) If the data in both statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
Solution:
Ans: (e)
From I:
Sunny is a boy and his mother has three children. So, excluding Sunny, there are two children, but their gender is not specified. So, we can’t find how many brothers does Sunny have. Hence, I alone is not sufficient.

From II:
As Keshav has no son but only a granddaughter, she must be the daughter of Neelima.

Thus, Neelima has only one daughter. Hence, I alone is not sufficient. Now, using I, Sunny has only one brother. Thus, both statements I and II are necessary to answer the question.
