In the first line its mentioned that neither V & Y sits neither in the 5th position or adjacent to the vacant seat, but your solution has them both,

Is it correct ??
Can you explain

Question:

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.

Eight persons  S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z – sit in ten seats arranged in a row of ten seats facing north but not necessarily in the same order. The gap between any two adjacent seats is the same and there are two vacant seats which are not adjacent to each other. The following information is known about the seating arrangement.

V sits four places away from Y but neither of them sits at the fifth place from either end of the row and does not sit adjacent to a vacant seat. Two persons sit between Y and S. S does not sit adjacent to V. W sits in the second seat to the left of the Z but not adjacent to vacant seat. U is adjacent to S. X does not sit to the left of T.

Four of the following five are alike in a certain way and hence form a group. Find the one which does not belong to that group.

Options:
A)

SW

B)

YT

C)

UY

D)

WZ

E)

TX

Solution:

Ans: (b)

It is given that V sits four places away from Y but neither of them sits at the fifth place from either ends of the row and does not sit adjacent to vacant seat. Two persons sit between V and S. S does not sit adjacent to V. Hence S sits at one of the ends of the row and Y sits three places away from S and V sits in the third seat from the other end of the row. S sits adjacent to U. Hence one vacant seat is at other end of the row and the other one is two places away from both V and Y. It can be represented as follows.

Case I.

W sits in the second seat to the left of the Z but not adjacent to vacant seat. Hence W sits two places away from S. As W sits second to the left of Z. Hence case II is eliminated. X does not sit to the left of T. Hence the final seating arrangement is as follows.

Except YT remaining persons are seated in the alternate position.
