here is not given as L is male hence explain is wrong

Question:

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.

In reception party Eight members of Bachchan family L through S are sifting around a circular table.

The following information is known about them:

(i) There are three married couples in the family.

(ii) One of L’s sons is sitting opposite him while the other is

adjacent to him.

(iii) S’s sister-in-law is M who is sifting to the immediate right of S’s father-in-law.

(iv) The number of females of the family is less than the number of males in the family,

(v) Two of the married couples have two children each.

(vi) N, who is the eldest male in the family, is sifting third to the left of his wife.

(vii) Q, the youngest, is not R’s son and is sitting adjacent to S. -

(viii) S is the aunt of P who is sitting three places away from N.
Who is N’s son?
Options:
A) L
B) P
C) O
D) R
E) None of the above
Solution:

R is N’s son.

As there are three married couples and two of them have two children each. The eight member family is possible only with the following structure.

From (iv) we can say that there are 3 females and 5 males in the family.

From (iii) we can say that S is from the second generation, as S has sister-in-law as well as father-in-law. From (viii) we know that S is a female. Thus, one of the siblings in the second generation is male and the other is a female. Now from (ii) L is male, and has two sons, As S is the aunt of P, L cannot be S’s husband as only one of the two couples in the second generation has children.

As Q is the youngest and he is not R’s son, he must be L’s son, Thus, from (ii), (iii), (vi) and (viii) we have

We do not have any information about O and R so let us leave it here.

Now, from (iii) and (vi) we get following arrangement.

Now, only two seats that are opposite to each other are vacant.

Thus, from (ii), L cannot be to the immediate right of M.

Thus, we get the following arrangement.

Since Q is L’s son and Q is adjacent to both S, (from (vii) and L, (from (ii), Thus

From (viii), P is three places away from R. So, we get the following arrangement.

Thus, O is N’s wife and R is S’s husband.
