Because there are exactly five persons sitting between C and H in case II.

Question:

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.

Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting in a row facing North. Only two persons are sitting to the left of D. A is adjacent to G and F. E is at one of the ends and three persons are sitting between him and G.

It C is at one of the ends and B is adjacent to D, then how many persons are sitting between C and H?

Options:
A) Three
B) Zero
C) Five
D) Cannot be determined
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans: (d) In case (I), if C is at the extreme end then B is adjacent to D. Then there can be either 3 or 5 persons sitting between C and H. Hence, cannot be determined.

Given that only two persons are sitting to the left of D, we know that D is the person from the left. Now E is at one of the ends. Thus, we have two possibilities:

Case (i): E is at the extreme left

E __ D __ GAF __

Case (ii): E is at extreme right

__ __ DGAF __ E
