PLease explain detail

Question:

Two glasses of equal volume are respectively half and three- fourth filed with milk. They are then filled to the brim by adding water. Their contents are then poured into another vessel. What will be the ratio of milk to water in the vessel?

Options:
A) 1 : 3
B) 2 : 3
C) 3 : 2
D) 5 : 3
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans (d):

In glass 1, milk = \(\cfrac{1}{2}\)

water = \(\cfrac{1}{2}\)

Glass 2, milk =\(\cfrac{3}{4}\)

water =\(\cfrac{1}{4}\)

When mixed, \(\cfrac{milk}{water}=\cfrac{\cfrac{1}{2}+\cfrac{3}{4}}{\cfrac{1}{2}+\cfrac{1}{4}} = \cfrac{5}{3}\)

Hello,

In glass 1, milk = 1/2

water =(1-1/2)= 1/2

Glass 2, milk =3/4

water = (1-3/4)=1/4

When mixed, milk and water =(1/2+3/4)/(1/2+1/4)=5/3

So, Required ratio = 5:3
