DIRECTIONS: Study the following table and answer the following questions carefully. 


Following table shows the percentage population of six countries below poverty line and the proportion of male and female.

If in country E population of males above poverty line is 32670, then what is the population of males below poverty line in that country?

Solution:
Ans: (b) 

Let the population of country E be x

∴ the above poverty line population will be 0.9x

The M : F ratio of above poverty line in country E is 3 :2

No. of males above poverty line in E = \(\cfrac{3}{5}\) × 0.9x = 32670

⇒ x = 32670 × \(\cfrac{5}{3}\times\cfrac{10}{9}\) 

⇒ x = 60500

∴ Below poverty line population of country E = 0.10 × 60500 = 6050

The M: F ratio in below poverty line population in E is 6: 5

∴ Number of males below poverty line in E = \(\cfrac{6}{11}\)× 6050 = 3300
