Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given, on solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Compare both the quantities and choose the correct option.

Quantity I- 30 persons can do a piece of work in 24 days. How many more people are required to complete the work in 20 days?

Quantity II- Some carpenters promised to do a job in 9 days but 5 of them were absent and remaining men did the job in 12 days, the original number of carpenters was

Options:
A) Quantity I > Quantity II
B) Quantity I < Quantity II
C) Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
D) Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
E) Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can’t be determined
Solution:
Ans: (b)

From Quantity I,

For a constant work when days are reduced by  \(\cfrac{1}{6}\), then number of men is increased by  \(\cfrac{1}{5}\). Hence 6 men will increase.

Alternatively:

24 × 30 = 20 × x

x = 36

Therefore 6 more men are required.

From Quantity II,
