How Q1 calculated

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given, on solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Compare both the quantities and choose the correct option.

Quantity I : The annual payment of Rs 80 in 5 years at 5% per annum simple interest will discharge a debt of:

Quantity II- A part of Rs.1500 was lent at 10% per annum and the rest at 7% per annum simple interest. The total interest earned in three years was Rs. 396. The sum lent at 10% was:

Options:
A) Quantity I > Quantity II
B) Quantity I < Quantity II
C) Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
D) Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
E) Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can’t be determined
Solution:

From Quantity I,

Debt amount =\(\cfrac{80\times(100\times5+\cfrac{5\times5\times4}{2})}{100}= \cfrac{80\times550}{100}\)

= 440

From Quantity II,

Let Rs.x be lent at 10% per annum.

∴ Rs. (1500 - x) is lent at 7% per annum

Now, \(\cfrac{x×10×3}{100 }\)   + \(\cfrac{(1500 - x) × 7 × 3}{100 }\)     = 396

⇒ 30x + 31500 - 21x = 39600

⇒ 9x = 39600 – 31500

⇒ x = \(\cfrac{8100}{9}\) = Rs.900
