how is N grandchild of O when N is T's child ? (Question: 114071.2 )

T and O has two daughters(r-s) and one son (n).

Question:

DIRECTIONS: Study the following information carefully and answer the questions that below.   


O, M, N, P, Q, R, S and T are sitting around a circle facing the centre but not necessarily in the same order. The male and female are in the ratio of 1:1. M sits second to left of T’s husband. No female is an immediate neighbour  of M. P’s daughter sits second to right of R. R is the sister of S. R is not an immediate neighbour of T’s husband. O is the father of S. T’s brother P sits to the immediate left of T’s mother. T is the neighbor of O. Only one person sits between T and S. T is the mother of N. S is not an immediate neighbour of Q.

What is the position of O with respect to his niece?
Options:
A) Immediate right 
B) Third to the right
C) Third to the left 
D) Second to the left
E) Fourth to the left
Solution:

Ans: (e) Q is niece of O and O is fourth to the left of Q.

Blood relationship-

M sits second to left of T’s husband which means M is not T’s husband and T is a female member.

T’s brother P sits to the immediate left of T’s mother means T has a brother P and a mother.

P’s daughter sits second to right of R means P is the father of a daughter.

O is the father of S and R is the sister of S.

O is male member so O can be the husband of T.

Still the relation of M and Q and gender of N and S is undefined.

Circular sitting arrangement-

M sits second to left of T’s husband(O). No female is an immediate neighbour of M.

Only one person sits between O and R. P’s daughter(Q/M) sits second to right of R.

 Now Q is the daughter of P and M must be the mother of T.

Only one person sits between T and S. S is not an immediate neighbour of Q.

T’s brother P sits to the immediate left of T’s mother(M).
