Question:

Lalita is 21st from the top, among passed students in a class. Sujata is 4 ranks below Lalita and is 30th from the bottom. If the ratio of passed students to failed students is 2 : 1. Then how many students are there in the class?

Solution:

Ans: (b) Lalita is 21st from the top.

Sujata is 4 ranks below Lalita, so she is 25th from top and 30th from bottom.

Total passed students = 25 + 30 – 1 = 54

Ratio of passed and fail students = 2 : 1

2x : x

∴ 2x = 54

x = 27

Total students = 3 × 27 = 81
