how come ..remaining 44% ??

Question:
Nikhil spent 45% of his monthly stipend on food and transport, 20% of the remaining on books and half of the remaining on other expenses. If he is left with Rs.880 now, how much is his monthly stipend?
Options:
A) Rs.6,000 
B) Rs.4,500
C) Rs.3,000 
D) Rs.3,600
E) Rs.4,000
Solution:

Ans (e)

100% - 45% = 55%
20% of 55%=11% of 100%
Remaining is 44%
now \(\cfrac{1}{2}\) of 44%=22%
\(\cfrac{22\times x\ \ \ \ }{100}\)  =880
\(x\)=4000
