I got the answer 30. pls review this.

Question:
If two pipes function simultaneously, the reservoir is filled in 12 hrs. One pipe fills the reservoir 10 hours faster than the other. How many hours does the faster pipe take to fill the reservoir?
Options:
A) 20 hrs
B) 30 hrs
C) 35 hrs
D) 45 hrs
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans (a) Let the faster pipe fills the tank in x hrs.

Then the slower pipe fills the tank in x + 10 hrs.

In 12 hrs. it is filled completed

Hence, In 1hr. it is filled \(\cfrac{1}{12}\) part

\(\cfrac{1}{x}+\cfrac{1}{x+10}=\cfrac{1}{12}\)

or (2x + 10) × 12 = x(x + 10)

or, x2 – 14x – 120 = 0

∴ x = 20, -6

But x can’t be -ve, hence the faster pipe will fill the reservoir in 20 hrs.
