here second conclusion is not true because there is no relation given between T and M????????????

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following questions, the symbols #, $, @, % and © are used with the following meaning as illustrated below:

‘P # Q’ means ‘P is not smaller than Q’.

‘P $ Q’ means ‘P is neither smaller than nor greater than Q’.

‘P @ Q’ means P is neither greater than nor equal to Q’.

‘P % Q’ means ‘P is not greater than Q’

‘P © Q’ means ‘P is neither smaller than nor equal to Q’.

Now in each of the following questions assuming the given statements to be true, find which of the two conclusions I and II given below them is/are definitely true?

Statements:

M © R, R @ K, K $ T

Conclusions:

I. T © R

II. T © M
Options:
A) if only conclusion I is true.
B) if only conclusion II is true.
C) if either conclusion I or II is true.
D) if neither conclusion I nor II is true.
E) if both conclusions I and II are true.
Solution:

Ans: (a) (i) P # Q means P < Q.

Therefore P > Q or P = Q Thus P ≥ Q

(ii) P $ Q means P< Q and P > Q. Therefore P = Q

(iii) P @ Q means P > Q and P ≠ Q. Therefore P < G

(iv) P % Q means P > Q. Therefore P < Q or P = Q. Thus P ≤ Q

(v) P © Q means P < Q and P ≠ Q. Therefore P > Q. Thus,

P ≠ Q ⇒ ≥

P $ Q ⇒ =

P @ Q ⇒ <

P % Q ⇒ ≤

P © Q ⇒ >

Statements

M © R ⇒ M > R

R @ K ⇒ R < K

K $ T ⇒ K = T

Therefore M > R < K = T

Conclusions

I. T © R ⇒ T > R            (True)

II. T © M ⇒ T > M           (false)
