2nd: i f work is not completed by saturday, no question arises whether it has been completed on friday or not.

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In each of the questions given below, question is followed by three statements. You have to study the given question and identify which of the three statements are sufficient to answer the question.

Did ‘A’ finish the task between Friday and Sunday inclusive of the same week?

I. ‘A’ completed twice as much of the task on Friday when compared to Thursday.

II. ‘A’ could not complete the task by Saturday.

III. ‘A’ completed half of the task by Thursday.

Options:
A) If statements I and II alone are sufficient.
B) If statements II and III alone are sufficient.
C) If statements I and III alone are sufficient.
D) If statements I or II or III alone sufficient.
E) If statements I,II and III together are sufficient.
Solution:

Ans: (c) From I we can say that A finished double the amount of work on Friday as compared to Thursday.

From II, no information if A finished by Friday.

From III, no information if A finished by Sunday. By combining I and II, it is still not certain if A finished the task by Friday.

By combining I and III, A finished the task by Friday. As A finished half of the work by Thursday and he finished double that amount by Friday, A definitely completed the task between Friday and Sunday inclusive.

∴ I and III together are sufficient to answer the question.
