how to simplify the ratio 12:12.75 ??

Question:

DIRECTIONS : Study the following graph carefully and answer the questions that follow:


The number of people (in thousand) working in three different organization of different income group.



What is the respective ratio of total number of people of income group 12001-14000, 14001-16000 and 18001-20000 of organization B to the total number of people of the same income group of organization A?
Options:
A) 16:17
B) 13:14
C) 19:20
D) 23:27
E) None of these
Solution:

Total number of people of organization B of the given income group = 3.5 + 4.5 + 4 = 12 and total number of people of the same income group in organization A = 4.0 + 3.75 + 5 = 12.75 thousand 

∴ Ratio = 12:12.75 = 16:17

Ratio = 12:12.75 = 12/12.75 = 1200/1275 = 48/51 = 16/17 = 16:17
