HOW DO WE GET 15C2
----------???PLS EXPLAIN
30C2

Question:

A basket contains 10 lemon and 20 oranges out of which 3 lemon and 5 oranges are defective. If we choose two fruits at random, what is the probability that either both are oranges or both are non-defective?

Options:
A) \(\cfrac{136}{345}\)
B) \(\cfrac{17}{87}\)
C) \(\cfrac{316}{435}\)
D) \(\cfrac{158}{435}\)
E) None of these
Solution:

n(s) = 30C2

Let A be the event of getting two oranges and B be the event of getting two non- defective fruits. And (A ∩B be the event of getting two non-defective oranges.

@SM ____________Lemons - - - - Oranges________

Total:- ________10________20__________

Defective:-______3_________5___________

Non-defective:-___7_________15__________

Let A=Event of selecting two oranges

& B=Event of selecting two non-defective fruits

We have to find P(A U B) which is equal to P(A)+P(B)-P(A⋂B)

Now, P(A)=(20C2)/(30C2)=190/435 ______________{as there are 20 oranges}

P(B)=(22C2)/(30C2)=231/435 ___{as there are total 7+15=22 non-defective fruits}

P(A⋂B)=(15C2)/(30C2)=105/435________{as there are 15 non-defective oranges}

substituting the values, we get an answer to be 316/435.

Because there are 15 non-defective oranges

so, P(A⋂B)=(15C2)/(30C2)=105/435
