Question:

DIRECTIONS: Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

Amit, Bhola, Chaman, Dhanush and  Ishan are running a 400m race. The racing track is divided into four laps of 100 m each and the speed of any runner over a lap is constant. All of them start from the starting point at the same time. It is also given that

I. Amit runs the first 100m in 5 seconds, the second 100m in 15 seconds, the third 100m in 14 seconds and the last 100m in 16 seconds.

II. Bhola runs the first 100m in 10 seconds, the second 100m in 10 seconds, the third 100 m in 8 seconds and the last 100m in 22 seconds.

III. Chaman runs the first 100m in 18 seconds, the second 100m in 4 seconds, the third 100m in 4 seconds and the last 100m in 24 seconds.

IV. Dhanush runs the first 100m in 9 seconds, the second 100m in 15 seconds, the third 100m in 8 seconds and the last 100m in 18 seconds.

V. Ishan runs the first 100m in 15 seconds, the second 100m in 7 seconds, the third 100m in 8 seconds and the last 100m in 20 seconds.

If it were to be a 4×100m relay race in which any four of the five runners had to run 100m each, then the fastest combination of runners over the four laps would finish the race in:

Options:
A) 33 seconds
B) 34 seconds
C) 35 seconds
D) 36 seconds
E) 32 seconds
Solution:

Sol: (b)

Amit, Ishan, Chaman and Dhanush in that order of laps 1 to 4 would mean that the race gets finished in 5 + 7 + 4 + 18 = 34 seconds.
