how it becomes 2(20+20+60+4)

Question:
The length and breadth of the floor of a room are 20 feet and 10 feet respectively. Square tiles of side 2 feet of three different colors are to be laid on the floor. White tiles are laid in the first row and all sides. If black tiles are laid in one third of the remaining and green tiles in the rest, how many green tiles will be there ?
Options:
A) 16
B) 48
C) 24
D) 32
E) None of these.
Solution:
We are given that a rectangular floor of length 20 feet and breadth 10 feet.

Area of the floor = 20*10=200 Sq. feet

Area covered by white tiles = 2(20+6)2=104 Sq. feet

Remaining area = (200-104) sq. feet = 96 Sq. feet

Area covered by black tiles = \(( {1 \over 3}*96)\) = 32 Sq. feet

And, Area covered by green tiles = (96-32) Sq. feet = 64 Sq. feet

Now, Area of one tile = (Side)2

                                =(2)2 = 4 Sq. feet

Hence,  Number of green tiles = 64/4 = 16

Area of 1 white tile = 2*2 = 4 Sq. feet

Since, all sides of floor is covered by white tiles, length of floor is 20 feet and breadth is 10 feet.

20 feet length will need 10 white tiles each on both sides which will cover area 10*4 + 10*4 = 40+40 =80 sq.feet

Now in 10 feet breadth will need 5 white tiles each on both side but all four corners already covered so area of four white tiles have to subtract, the area will cover = 3*4 + 3*4 = 12+12=24

Now, add 80 and 24,
Area covered by white tiles = 80+24=104 Sq. feet

by shortcut,
Area covered by white tiles = 2(20+20+60+6)=104 Sq. feet
