answer should be option E , because no private is school

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the question below, there are few statements followed by few conclusions. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusion logically follow(s) from the given statements.

Statements:

Some banks are private.

No private is public.

All public are schools.

Conclusions:

I. Some banks are not public.

II. No private is school.

Options:
A)

If only I follows.

B)

If only II follows.

C)

If either I or II follows.

D)

If neither I nor II follows.

E)

If both I and II follow.

Solution:

Ans: (a)

The given statements can be represented in the following basic diagram.

Conclusion I, negative follows.

Conclusion II, negative follows.

As the negative conclusions follow let us try to negate them by using an alternative diagram.

The negation of conclusion I is All banks are public” and that of conclusion II is “Some private are school”.

We cannot draw an alternative diagram for the negation of conclusion I, hence I follows.

Conclusion II is negated, hence II does not follow.

\(\therefore\) Only I follows.
