Dear Student, The given sentence is grammatically correct and requires no change. ' Macular degeneration, the progressive deterioration of the central area of the retina' is the correct in form. The comma after 'Macular degeneration' describes the condition that is 'Macular degeneration'. There is no need for any further/additional description of the same. Also, the use of 'the' retina is correct as it signifies a particular part of the eye. Regards, Team TR
