How can we express root 8 as 2 power 3/2

Question:

The value of y in the solution of the equation 2x+y = 2x-y = √8 is:

Options:
A) 0
B) 1/4
C) 1/2
D) 3/4
E) 1/3
Solution:
2x+y = 2x-y = √8 = 23/2

⇒ x + y = \(\cfrac{3}{2}\)…(i)

and x - y = \(\cfrac{3}{2}\)…(ii)

(i) - (ii)

2y = 0 ⇒ y = 0

square root of (8) = square root of (2^3) = (2^3)^(1/2) = (2)^{3*(1/2)} = (2)^(3/2).....you must know the formula of Surds and Indices: (a^m)^n = (a)^(mn)...
