u mentioned both pipes are opened but u sloving as that pipe B is opened 1st and closing that then opening pipe A

Question:
Two pipes A & B can fill a cistern in 4 hours & 6 hours respectively. If both the pipes opened together, after how much time B should be closed so that the tank is full in 3 hours?
Options:
A) 2 hours
B) 1.5 hours
C) 4 hours
D) 2.5 hours
E) None of these.
Solution:
Let the pipe B be closed after \(x\) hour.

Part filled by B in x hour =\(\cfrac{1}{6}x=\cfrac{x}{6}\)

Part filled by A in 3 hour =\(\cfrac{3}{4}\)

\(\cfrac{3}{4}+\cfrac{x}{6}=1\)

\( \Rightarrow 4x=6 \Rightarrow x=1.5\)

Its not...........Two pipes A & B can fill a cistern in 4 hours & 6 hours respectively. If both the pipes opened together, after how much time B should be closed so that the tank is full in 3 hours?

it means tank will be fill in 3 hours so pipe A will be opened 3 hours means it will fill 3/4 part of the tank, now 1/4 part of the tank is empty which will be filled by pipe B...

So, (1/4)/(1/6) = 1.5 hours pipe B will be opened.....it means pipe B will be closed after 1 and 1/2 hour...
