if F is the female then C is the brother in law of A then different arrangement is possible

Question:

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.

Eight members - A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H - of a family which consist of four couples from two generations are sitting around a circular table. The following information is known about them.

(i) Each person is sitting opposite his/her spouse.

(ii) B is the father of A and has two sons-in-law.

(iii) D and H are the daughters of G.

(iv) E is the spouse of H and is to the immediate right of his / her mother-in-law.

(v) A is the brother of D and is sitting to the immediate right of his brother-in-law.

(vi) F is sitting to the immediate left of his mother-in-law.

Who is sitting second to the right of D?

Options:
A)

H

B)

B

C)

A

D)

E

E)

None of these

Solution:

Ans: (a)

Given that there are only two generations and four couples. From statements (iii) and (v), we can say that D, H, and A are siblings. Since B is the father of A, G should be mother of D, H and A. From (iv) E is spouse of H and from (vi) F is a male, so is the spouse of D.

So the given information can be represented as follows.

Now from clues (i), (iv) and (vi) we can say that E is to the right of G and A is to the right of E. F is sitting to the left of G.

F, G, E and A are sitting opposite to their respective spouses. The final arrangement is as follows.

H is sitting second to the right of D.
