HOW 18:25 CAME?

Question:
One year ago, the ratio between Laxman’s and Gopal’s salaries was 3 : 5. The ratio of their individual salaries of last year and present year are 2 : 3 and 4: 5 respectively. If their total salaries for the present year are Rs.4300, find the present salary of Laxman.
Options:
A) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)1200
B) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)1600
C) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)1800
D) Can’t be determined
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Present 3 × \(\cfrac{3}{2}\) : 5 × \(\cfrac{5}{4}\)

⇒ 18 : 25

∴ Present salary of Lakshman

= \(\cfrac{4300}{18+25}\) × 18 = 1800

see; 3*(3/2):5*(5/4)
= (9/2):(25/4)
on cross multiplying;
we get = 36:50
reducing it by dividing each of them by 2;

we get 18:25
