doubt. please clarify. (Question: 110985.0 )

if y^2=25 then y= + or - 5
so x will be > or = y in that case.

Question:

DIRECTION:In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and


Give answer if


I.     x4 – 227 = 398

II.    y2 + 321 = 346

Options:
A) x > y
B)

x ≥ y

C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established
Solution:

Ans: (e)

From equation I,

x4 - 227 = 398

x4 = 398 + 227

x4 = 625

x4 = (+ 5)4

x = +5

From equation II,

y2 + 321 = 346

y2 = 346 - 321

y2 = 25

y2 = (+5)2

y = +5

∴ No relationship can be established.

Given answer is correct...
From equation I,
x^4 - 227 = 398
x^4 = 398 + 227
x^4 = 625
x = +5, -5
From equation II,
y^2 + 321 = 346
y^2 = 346 - 321
y^2 = 25
y = +5, -5

Now compare both:

5=5 means x=y
5>-5 means x>y

-5<5 means x<y

-5=-5 means x=y

Here all three signs appears which are not possible....Thats why...

∴ No relationship can be established.
