Let C.P be Rs. x
2(900 - x) = x - 450 => x = Rs.750

C.P = 750 gain required is 25%
S.P = [(100+25) x 750] / 100 = Rs.937.50

Question:

By selling an object for Rs.900 a man earns double the profit of what he would have lost had he sold it for Rs.450. If he sells it at a profit of 20%, find his selling price.

Options:
A)

620

B)

618

C)

550

D)

600

E)

None of these

Solution:

P = 2L

S.P1. – C.P. = 2(C.P. – S.P.)

900 + 900 = 3CP

C.P. = 600

P% =20%

S.P. = (100 + P%)/100 × C.P.

= 120/100 × 600 = Rs.720

Profit is 20% So,
S.P=[100+20] X 750]/100= Rs 900
