TRANSCENDENTAL & ETHERNAL

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Each question below has one or more blanks, each blank indicating that something has been omitted. Choose the set of words for the blanks which best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

Great saints believe that realisation of God will liberate man from _______ bondage and this state of release confers the privilege of serving the Lord in his _______ abode,

Options:
A) materialistic, permanent
B) earthly, transcendental
C) primitive, unique
D) early, traditional
E) spiritual, ethereal
Solution:

Ans: (b) earthly, transcendental

Man has to be liberated from earthly ‘or ‘materialistic’ bondage. and he should be united with ‘spiritual’ bondage, and hence ‘spiritual’ in option 5 would distort the sentence. ‘Early’ or ‘primitive’ is not suitable in the given context. When man’s life is materialistic’, God’s abode should be the opposite of ‘materialistic’. But ‘permanent’ doesn’t suggest that. Whereas ‘earthly’ and ‘transcendental’ are antonyms and are the most appropriate words in the given context.

Transcendental is an adjective. A transcendental experience, event, object, or idea is extremely special and unusual and cannot be understood in ordinary ways.

Ethernal doesn't exist in english dictionary...its ethereal...

Ethereal is also an adjective. light and delicate, especially in an unnatural way.
