Is there is any formula for this question??

Question:

In a row of girls, Pinky and Rinky are sitting at the ninth place from the right end and tenth place from the left end respectively. If they interchange their places, then Pinky and Rinky will sit on seventeenth place from the right and eighteenth place from the left respectively. How many girls are there in the row?

Options:
A) 25
B) 26
C) 27
D) 30
E) Data inadequate
Solution:

Ans (b) Since Pinky and Rinky exchange places, so Pinky’s new position is the same as Rinky’s earlier position. This position is 17th from the right and 10th from the left.

∴ Number of girls in the row = (16 + 1 + 9) = 26.

Formulas to find the positioning of a person

1)Left + Right = Total + 1

2)Left = Total + 1 – Right

3)Right = 1 + 1 – left

4)Total = left + Right

Rememebr: the above formulas are only for a single person's position

Since Pinky and Rinky exchange places, so Pinky’s new position is the same as Rinky’s earlier position. This position is 17th from the right and 10th from the left.
∴ Number of girls in the row = (16 + 1 + 9) = 26.
