correct the statement

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In each of the following questions, a question is followed by information given in two statements. You have to study the question along with the statements and decide, the information given in which of the statements (s) is necessary to answer the question?

Question:

What is the radius of circle P?

Statements:

I.  Circle P lies inside another concentric circle Q and its radius is the same as the width of the path between P and Q. Also the diameter of circle Q is 28 cm.

II.  Area of circle P is more than that of circle Q by 462 sq.cm and the difference of their radii is 7 cm.

Options:
A) If the question can be answered by using statement I alone but not by using statement II alone
B) If the question can be answered by using statement II alone but not by using statement I alone
C) If the question can be answered by using either of the statements alone
D) If the question can be answered by using both the statements together but not by either of the statements alone
E) If the question cannot be answered even by using both the statements together
Solution:

From statement I, as the’ two circles are concentric and the radius of P will be half that of Q, as radius of Q = radius of P + width of the path i.e. 2 (radius of P) As the radius of Q is given, radius of P can be found.

From statement II, we have    \(\pi\)p2 – \(\pi\)q2 = 462 [where p is the radius of circle p and q is the radius of that of 9].

Also p – q = 7. Solving p2 – q2  =

\(\cfrac{462}{\pi}\)  and p – q = 7.

The value of p can be found, and thereby area also.
