cp and profit is give thn we can find s.p. directly thn we find m.p?

Question:
A tradesman marks his goods at such a price that after allowing a discount of 12 \(\frac{1}{2}\) % for cash payment, he makes a profit of 20%. What is the marked price (in rupees) of the article which costs him Rs. 210?
Options:
A) 285
B) 288
C) 385
D) 388
E) None of these
Solution:

Let the marked price = x

S. P. = x - \(\frac{25x}{200}\) (as discount is 12 \(\frac{1}{2}\)% i.e. \(\frac{25}{200}\)× x)

= \(\frac{175x}{200}\)  = \(\frac{7}{8}\)x

P% = 20%

C.P. =  \(\frac{100}{100+P%}\) × S.P.

C.P. = \(\frac{100}{100+20}\)  × \(\frac{7}{8}\)  x

=  \(\frac{100}{120}\) × \(\frac{7}{8}\)  x = \(\frac{35}{48}\) x

If C.P. =  \(\frac{35}{48}\) x     then, M.P. = x

If C.P. = 210      then, M.P. =  \(\frac{210\times x}{\frac{35}{48}x}\)  = \(\frac{210x}{1}\)  × \(\frac{48}{35x}\)  = Rs. 288
