Could u pls explain how to form the equation?

Question:

Sanjay says, “I have as many sisters as brothers.” Sarita says, “Each of us sisters has only half as many sisters as brothers.” Assuming that Sanjay and Sarita are brother and sister, how many brothers and sisters are there in the family?

Options:
A) 6 brothers and 4 sisters
B) 4 brothers and 6 sisters
C) 3 brothers and 4 sisters
D) 4 brothers and 3 sisters
E) None of these
Solution:

Let there are ‘b’ brothers and ‘s’ sisters, then according to Sanjay.

b-1 = s                                                                        ….. (i)

According to Sarita, b = 2 (s-1)                                  …… (ii)

On salving Eqs. (i) and (ii) b = 4 and s = 3

Thus, there are 4 brothers and 3 sisters

in my opinion solve it through female and male members in the family or simply check it by options.

if you will take b=s.....then Sanjay will be missing.....

Thats why b-1=s

Because Sanjay is also the member of family....

Let there are ‘b’ brothers and ‘s’ sisters, then according to Sanjay.
b-1 = s ____(i)
According to Sarita, b = 2 (s-1) ____(ii)
On salving Eqs. (i) and (ii) b = 4 and s = 3
Thus, there are 4 brothers and 3 sisters
