Cost Price=3400/1.7

how to come 1.7

Question:
An article with marked price Rs.3400 is sold at a discount of 20%. If marked price is 70% above the cost price, find profit percentage.
Options:
A) 50%
B) 40%
C) 42%
D) 36%
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans: (d)

Marked price = Rs. 3400

Discount       =  20% of 3400 = Rs. 680

Selling price   = Rs 3400 – Rs 680 = Rs 2720

Cost price = Rs. \(\cfrac{3400}{1.7}\)  = Rs. 2000

Profit = Rs 2720 – Rs 2000 = Rs 720

Profit % = \(\left ( \cfrac {720}{2000} \right )\) x 100% = 36%

Dear student
According to Question.
Mark price is 70% above the cost price.
Therefore, MP= 3400
CP = (3400 / 170) x 100
CP = 2000
Profit = SP - CP
= 2720 - 2000 = 720
Profit% = (720 / 2000) x 100
= 36%

Best wishes
