9 (3,3,3) also come..total no of outcome will be 4 for 9

Question:
Three unbiased dice thrown at random. What is the probability that the sum of outcomes is multiple of 3.
Options:
A) \(\cfrac{1}{12}\)
B) \(\cfrac{5}{36}\)
C) \(\cfrac{13}{108}\)
D) \(\cfrac{2}{27}\)
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (d) Total outcomes = 6 x 6 x 6 = 216

Favorable outcomes =

for 3 {111}=1

for 6 {123}{222}{141}=3

for 9 {126}{234}{351}=3

for 12 {246}{345}{444}{525}{516}

for 15 {555}{366}{456}

for 18{666}=1

Total favorable outcome= 1+3+3+5+3+1=16

Probability = Favorable outcomes/ Total outcomes

= \(\cfrac{16}{216}\) = \(\cfrac{4}{54}\)=2/27
