DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.


Eight persons – A to H – belong to a family in which there are three generations, three couples and each couple has at least one child. Each one of the family members lives on a different floor of an eight storeyed building, of which the ground floor is considered as the first floor and the floor above the ground floor is considered as the second floor and so on. It is known that the two members of any couple live in alternate floors.



Either E or C is the son – in – law of B and that son – in – law does not live on odd numbered floor. The number of persons live above D's floor is equal to the number of persons live below G's floor but D and G do not live on adjacent floors. A is the uncle of G, who lives three floors above his/her father's floor. H is a bachelor and lives two floors below his mother's floor. D is married to neither B nor C. A and F live on adjacent floors.

How many males are there in the family?

Ans: (e) It is given that, there are three generations, three couples and each couple has at least one child.

Either E or C is the son — in — law of B and that son — in — law does not live on odd numbered floor. A is the uncle of G. who lives three floors above his!her father’s floor. Hence A is the son of B and G is the son/daughter of B’s daughter. Which means either E or C is the father of G As G lives three floors above his father’s floor G lives on the 7th floor and G’s father lives on the 4 floor and D lives on the second floor. H is a bachelor and lives two floors below his mother’s floor. Two members of any couple live two floors away from each other. D is married to neither B nor C. Hence D is married to E. A and F live on adjacent floors hence F is married to B and C is married to A. Hence the family tree and final living arrangement is as follow.



Either four or five males can be there in the family.
