.so is via "the" basement correct.

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Read each sentence to find out whether there is any grammatical error in it. The error, if any, will be in one part of the sentence. Mark the part with the error as your answer. If there is no error, mark 'No Error' as your answer. (Ignore errors of punctuation, if any)
The best way to (a)/ approach to the newly-constructed building (b)/ is to go (c)/ via the basement. (d)/ No error (e)
Options:
A) (a)
B) (b)
C) (c)
D) (d)
E) (e)
Solution:
The error is in (b) in which a needless preposition (“to”) is used after the verb “approach.” We approach a problem, we approach a building, we approach a road and so on. That means there is no need of the preposition between the verb “approach” and its object. However, when the word “approach” is a noun, a preposition is required, as in “They made a direct approach to the minister: there are several approaches to the study. The verb “approach” is a transitive verb and it directly takes the object, as exemplified above.
