HOW - CANBE + IN CALCULATION

Question:
A father and a son working together can complete a job in 5 days. Father alone can complete it in 7 days. Both of them work for 4 days and then father had to leave. How long will the son take to complete the remaining work?
Options:
A) \(2\cfrac{1}{2}\) Days
B) \(3\cfrac{1}{2}\) Days
C) \(4\cfrac{1}{2}\) Days
D) \(3\cfrac{3}{2}\) Days
E) None of these.
Solution:
(Father & Son)' one day work =\(\cfrac{1}{5}\)
Father’s one day work = \(\cfrac{1}{7}\)
Son’s one day work =\(\cfrac{1}{5}-\cfrac{1}{7}=\cfrac{7-5}{35}=\cfrac{2}{35}\)
(Father & Son)’s 4 day’s work =\(4\times\cfrac{1}{5}=\cfrac{4}{5}\)
Remaining work = \(1-\cfrac{4}{5}=\cfrac{5-4}{5}=\cfrac{1}{5}\)
Son can complete \(\cfrac{2}{35}\) work in one day
Son can complete \(\cfrac{1}{5}\) work in \(\cfrac{35}{2\times5}=\cfrac{7}{2}=3\cfrac{1}{2}\)

(Father & Son)'s one day work =1/5
Father’s one day work = 1/7
Son’s one day work =1/5−1/7=(7−5)/35=2/35
(Father & Son)’s 4 day’s work =4×1/5=4/5
Remaining work = 1−4/5=(5−4)/5=1/5
Son can complete 2/35 work in one day
Son can complete 1/5 work in (35)/(2×5)=7/2=3 and 1/2
