Each of the eight persons P1, R1, P2, R2, P3, R3, P4 and R4 of a family is of a different height. No child is taller than any one of their parents.

(a) R2 is the granddaughter of P1 and cousin of P4 whose father is R1.

(b) P4 is taller than R4 and R3 is grandchild of P1.

(c) P3 is the sister-in-law of P2.

(d) P4 is taller than P3, R2 is taller than only R3.

(e) There are two pairs of brother and sister. P1 is shorter than P2.
Who is the tallest in the family?
Options:
A) P4
B) P3
C) P1
D) P2
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (d) P2 is the tallest.
From (b) and (c)

R1 is the father of P4.

From (d)

P4 is taller than P3. Thus P3 is not the mother of P4 and as P3 is the sister-in-law of P2 (from (a)). P2 can be the mother of P4. R4 and P3 are the parents of R2.

∴ P1> P3 and R1.

P3 and R4> R2

R1 and P2 > P4> R4

P2>P1 (from5)

P4>P3 (from4)

R2> R3 (from 4)

∴P2>P1>R1>P4>P3, R4>R2>R3

R4 is shorter than P4 but taller than R2.
