Are there separate answers for each question?

Question:

DIRECTIONS: These questions are based on the following information.

Eight boys — A through H and eight girls — M though T are to be divided into six teams — two teams each for Mathematics, Science and Politics — such that each team consists of at least one girl and at least one boy. The two teams selected for a particular subject will compete with each other in a quiz competition of that subject. At most one of P and Q can be selected for the quiz in Politics. The following table gives the teams’ size for each subject, and who are eligible candidates selected, for each subject. Only eligible candidates can be selected into a team.

If P is selected for Science then which of the following teams cannot have two girls?

Options:
A) Mathematics — team I
B) Mathematics — team II
C) Science team I
D) Science — team II
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans (a)  It is possible in case (i), (ii), (iii), (vi), (vii) and (viii), where Mathematics team I has only one girl.

As each of A, G, T and H has only one possible place, we can straight away place them in their corresponding teams.

As H is in team I of Politics, F cannot be in the team [only one boy can be there in that team]

∴    F in is team I of Mathematics.

Now, we have the following possible cases:

(a)  If Q is selected for Politics [team II]

P must be in Science [team II]

∴    S must be is Science [team I]

Also, O must be in Mathematics [team II]

One of C and D is in Mathematics [team I] and the other is in Science [team II]

Depending on who (between B and E) is selected for Politics [team II] we have the following possibilities:

(b)   If P is selected for Politics [team lJ

⇒  M must be selected for Science [team I] and R must be selected for Mathematics (team II]

∴  Q must be selected for Mathematics [team I]

∴   C and D must be selected for Science [team II]

⇒   D must be selected for Mathematics [team I]

Depending on who have to be selected (among B and F) for Politics we have the following possibilities

(c) Neither P nor Q is selected for Politics

⇒   P is selected for Science [team II] and Q is selected for Mathematics [team I] = S must be selected for Politics [team II] Mathematics [team II].

⇒   One of C and D is selected for Science [team II] and the other is selected for Mathematics [team II

∴   O is selected for Mathematics [team II].
