(x/9)=[(x+180)/27]
x=90 m/s

Question:
DIRECTIONS: The question given below contain two statements giving certain data. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient for answering the question? Mark answer-

What is the speed of a running train which takes 9 seconds to cross a signal post?

(I) The length of the train is 90 metres.

(II) The train takes 27 seconds to cross a platform of 180 m.

Options:
A) If statement I alone is sufficient but statement II alone is not sufficient.
B) If statement II alone is sufficient but statement I alone is not sufficient.
C) If each statement alone (either I or II) is sufficient.
D) If statement I and II together are not sufficient.
E) If the statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
Solution:
Ans: (a) I. Speed = \(\cfrac{90}{9}\times\cfrac{18}{5}=36 \ km/h\)
II. Length of train is not given

Dear student
Time taken to cross a platform = (Length of train + length of platform)/Speed of the train.
Speed = (Length of the train + 180)/27, But Length of train is not given.
So speed cannot be obtained. So, II is not sufficient to answer the question
