how did you solve this question by alligation.pls tell me as soon as possible.for this i m very thankfull to you.

Question:
200 liters of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 17 : 3. After the addition of some more milk to it, the ratio of milk to water in the resulting mixture becomes 7 : 1. The quality of milk added to it was:
Options:
A) 20 liters
B) 40 liters
C) 60 liters
D) 80 liters
E) None of these
Solution:

Quantity of milk in 200 liter

Mixture = \(\frac{17}{20}\)  × 200 = 170 liter

∴ Quantity of water = (200 – 170) liter

= 30 liter

Let x liter milk be added

∴  \(\frac{170+x}{30}=\frac{7}{1}\)

x + 170 = 210

∴ x = 210 – 170 = 40 liter.

By Alligation-Method

So, quantity of pure milk.

= \(\frac{1}{5}\)  of quantity of old mixture

=  \(\frac{1}{5}\) × 200 l = 40 l

Dear student, Alligation is a rule that enables us to find the ratio in which two or more ingredients at the given price must be mixed to produce a mixture of desired price. There are two types of methods used in alligation.
So, quantity of pure milk.

= 1/5 of quantity of old mixture

= 1/5 × 200 l = 40
