i need clear solution for that problem.i did't understand

Question:

The average age of a man and his son is 30 years. Four years ago, the ratio of their ages was 10:3. What is the difference between the present ages of the man and his son?

Options:
A) 28 years
B) 16 years
C) 26 years
D) 44 years
Solution:

Ans (a)

Let the present ages of man and son be M and S.

According to the question,

\(\cfrac{(M +5)}{2}\)= 30

M + S = 60                                  ….(1)

Also,

\(\cfrac{M - 4}{S-4}=\cfrac{10}{3}\)=  10

10S - 3M = 28                              …(2)

On solving (1) and (2), we get

S = l6 and M = 44

Therefore, M - S = 28 years

oK See:

Let the present ages of man and son be x and y.

According to the question,Four years ago, the ratio of their ages was 10:3,

(x−4)/(y−4)=10/3

3x-12 = 10y-40

3x-10y=-28 ____(1)

Again,

According to the question,The average age of a man and his son is 30 years that means average of x and y is 30.

(x+y)/2 = 30

x+y = 60 ___(2)

On solving (1) and (2), we get

y = l6 and x = 44

Therefore, the Difference between the man and his son = x-y = 44-16 = 28 years
