Question:

Manik starts running towards South. After running 25 metres he turns towards North. After running 30 metres, he turns towards East and runs 20 metres. He then turns towards South and runs 20 metres. How far is he from his original position and in which direction?

Options:
A) 25 metres, East 
B) 25 metres, South-east
C) 15 metres, West
D) 25 metres, North-east
E) 10 metres, South-west
Solution:

Ans (b) OA = 25 m 

OB = AB – OA = 30 – 25 = 5m 

BC = 20 m 

CD =20 m

CE = OB = 5m 

OE = BC = 20 m

ED = CD – CE = 20 – 5 = 15m 

So, OD2 = OE2 + ED2

OD2 = 202 + 152 = 400 +225 = 625

OD = 25 m


Direction will be south east.
