sir i can't get it plz describe in a little bit detailed manner

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In each of the following questions, a question is followed by information given in two statements. You have to study the question along with the statements and decide, the information given in which of the statements (s) is necessary to answer the question?

What is the value of x + y?

I. x is the largest 3 digit number.

II. x is the opposite integer of y.

Options:
A) If the question can be answered by using statement I alone but not by using statement II alone
B) If the question can be answered by using statement II alone but not by using statement I alone
C) If the question can be answered by using either of the statements alone
D) If the question can be answered by using both the statements together but not by either of the statements alone
E) If the question cannot be answered even by using both the statements together
Solution:
Statement (I) gives the value of x i.e 999. Statement (II) gives y = - x from which the x + y can be calculated.

therefore;

x = -999

y= 999

-999 + 999 = 0

So, both the statements together are sufficient.

Dear student
From statement I; we can only get the value of x i.e 999, but from statement II; we can infer that x and y are
opposite integers and in the given equation x + y, y is positive integer and x would be a negative integer as per
the statement. So x = -999 and y = 999.
Given: x + y = 0
-999 + 999 = 0
