IN ALLIGATION THE ORDER OF PRICES SHOULD BE FROM LOWER TO HIGHER, THEREFORE 28 KG WILL BE MIXTURE 1 AND 35 WILL BE MIXTURE AND THEN THE ANS WILL COME AS 5:2

Question:

A shopkeeper mixes two varieties of rice purchased @ Rs. 35 per kg and @ Rs. 28 per kg respectively. If he sells the mixture @ Rs. 36 per kg and thus gains 20%. The ratio in which the two varieties are mixed is:

Options:
A) 2 : 5
B) 4 : 7
C) 5 : 2
D) 7 : 4
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (a) Profit = \(\cfrac{1}{5}\) of cost price

= \(\cfrac{1}{6}\) of selling price = \(\cfrac{1}{6}\times\) 36 = Rs.6

\(\therefore\) Cost of the mixture = Rs.(36-6) = Rs.30

By alligation method

\(\therefore\) Ratio in which the two varieties are mixed 2 : 5
